Humor
by Michal Bernasconi

The whole world’s a stage, and everybody’s looking for a laugh—why shouldn’t they? Studies show that laughter induces endorphin production in the human body. So truly, laughing just feels good. What, then, do Hays High kids laugh at?

“Jim Varney is the funniest actor,” senior John Cook said. For those who don’t know who Jim Varney is, he is the actor who played in the Earnest films.

Junior Adam Rack said the funniest actor is “Dave Foley. He’s Canadian,”…naturally. But the most comical person at Hays High would be “A mix between Clayton Gabel and Mona Korbe. They make me laugh in different ways, so it’s hard to choose.”

From another perspective, “People would skewer me for this, but I’d say Alex Schaeffer [is the funniest person at Hays High],” Cook told.

“Aaron Dreher always entertains me,” junior Tabitha Marcotte said. When asked to describe her sense of humor she told, “Occasionally it’s slap-stick, but most of the time I’m sarcastic.”
Rack described his sense of humor with an anecdote, “[My sense of humor is] weird. I laugh at a lot. I find the most ridiculous things funny. Like last month during musical, this girl wrecked into my truck. I was like, oh boy, well, that’s just a dent in the back.

“And then a couple of nights ago I started pulling out of my spot in the parking lot at Tawnita’s and saw that the same girl was pulling out of her spot too. I stopped and looked to see if anyone was coming and when I looked back I noticed a parked semi-trailer was moving. I realized the only way it could have been moving was the girl hitting it…and then I just cracked up laughing, and got out of my truck laughing hysterically. She was very angry and disturbed by the situation. A laugh was not prudent at the moment.”

Whether teens are laughing in just the right places, or during entirely inappropriate moments, they always seem to be chuckling at something. So if you happen to be the one looking to make the world laugh, remember the wisdom of John Cook, “A joke can go anywhere at any time, you don’t have to be having a funny conversation.” Relax, and let the laughter roll.
