Kuhn Lady Indian soccer falls to Buffaloes
Posted: April 30, 2008
by THAYNE GRIFFIN

After falling at Garden City April 14, the Lady Indian soccer team looked to avenge their previous loss at home April 24 in a game to help decide the Western Athletic Conference race.

Garden City, however, clinched the WAC for the third straight year with a 3-1 win over the Indians (8-3 overall, 5-2 WAC).

Hays struck early against the visiting Buffaloes, with senior Betsy Dreiling scoring off of a cross from the left by junior Kelsey Hedlund in the ninth minute.

However, the Indians’ lead would not hold as the Buffaloes tied the match midway through the first half, leaving the teams knotted up at 1-1 heading into the half.

Throughout the second half, the Buffaloes pushed the issue looking for the game-winning goal, which would come early in the half off of a near post goal from the right, just past the fingertips of senior goalkeeper Lindsey Dinkel.

Indian track competes at Kansas Relays

Fifteen Hays High track and field athletes competed at the 81st Kansas Relays April 18 and 19 with three top five finishes, including a new school record in the 1600-meter run.

Sophomore Josh Munsch, an elite distance runner in Kansas, finished third overall in a new school record time of 4:21.99, besting the previous school record of 4:24.40, set by Brad Seibel in 1977.

“It really feels awesome to break the record,” Munsch said. “I've been wanting to do that (break the record) ever since I first looked at the record board in the seventh grade for summer lifting. Now that I have achieved that goal, I hope to continue to do well and break my own personal records.

“The mile was a really good experience; I felt that I needed a race where there were tons of great runners. The pace was really good, and my legs felt great.”
