Bill Gasper B.A. - Newspaper Adviser
Bill Gasper started teaching at Hays High in the Fall of 2004. Mr. Gasper teaches Intro to Journalism, Digital Photography, Advanced Yearbook. Yearbook, and Advanced Newspaper, and Newspaper. He has also invested much outside time into other Hays High activities as he is the the director of the spring play.
Gasper received his B.A. in English/Journalism from Fort Hays State University and has had over 22 years practical experience in the Newspaper industry. He worked as the Editor of The Leoti Standard for a year, until he acquired The Ellis Review in 1983. He also acquired The Hoxie Sentinel in 1995; he owned and operated these papers until joining the Hays High staff in 2004. He also worked as the Manager of Organizational Communications at KN Energy between 1989 and 1995.

Sr. Derek Kandt - Editor-in-Chief
This is Derek Kandt's third year on the Guidon newspaper staff. He is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief for the second year. Besides being the editor for the newspaper, Kandt is involved in BPA (Business Professionals of America), track and field, webteam, Computer programming, National Honors Society, and competed in Model UN.
Outside of school, you can find him participating in LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) and working at Whiskey Creek. Kandt’s immediate goals for this school year are for the Guidon succeed in state wide competitions, do well at State BPA and possibly go to nationals, and get a high score on the ACTs.

Sr. Allyson Klaus - Assistant Editor
Allyson Klaus is a senior and is currently serving her second year on the Guidon. She also participates in Hays High's golf team and its band.
Outside of school, Klaus takes flute and piano lessons, is involved in her church, in CYO, a member of the youth council, the youth music leader, and the accompanist for the children s choir. Her immediate goals for this year are to maintain her involvement in academics and extra-curricular activities and to get prepared to go to college next year.

Sr. Rachel Schultz - Online Editor
Rachel Schultz is currently serving her second year on the Guidon newspaper staff. In school, you can find Schultz on Channel 13, as well as in Student Council, Forensics, and Spring Play.
Outside of school, Schultz dances on the Vision Dance Company, works at JD s Chicken, attends youth group, or just hangs out with her friends. Her goals for the year are to get into college and do well in dance competitions in the Spring.

Jr. Thayne Griffin - Sports Editor
Thayne Griffin is a junior and is currently serving his second year on the Guidon newspaper staff. In school, Griffin plays soccer, intramurals, track and field, Student Council, and Math Relays.
Outside of school, he is on the Kansas ODP Soccer Team, and works as soccer official at the Hays Recreation Commission. Griffin's goals for this year are to succeed academically and athletically, get a 34 on the ACT, and have the Guidon succeed at state competitions.

Sr. Devin Ermoian - Photo Editor
Devin is a senior serving his third year on the Guidon. In school Devin is involved in Chamber Singers, Model UN, and the Spring Play.
Outside of school Devin is an active participant in his church, and serves as a Wyldlife leader. Devin enjoys literature, watching independent/foreign film, and writing. Next year Devin plan’s on majoring in Film at KU.  |

Sr. Sybil Adams - Staff Reporter/Photographer
Sybil is a senior serving her first year on the Guidon. In school Sybil is involved in Dance Team, Science Club, and is the International Club president.
Outside of school Sybil works at Whiskey Creek and despite participating in no other organized activity, cannot find time to finish her homework. Her goals and future plans include attending either KU or Fort Hays majoring in Nursing and Psychology.

Sr. Michal Bernasconi - Staff Reporter
This is Michal Bernasconi. A first year Guidon reporter, she's new to
journalism. She also participates in the Fall musical, Spring play,
Chamber Singers, and being cool.
When she's not hitting school with her best, Michal works at Gutierrez,
and is involved with Teens For Christ. She enjoys laughing, writing,
learning, and meeting people.

Jr. Lexi Copeland - Staff Reporter
Lexi’s currently serving her first year on the Guidon. In school you’ll find her participating in Channel 13, Chamber Singers, Film Club, Forensics, Fall musical, and Spring Play.
Outside of school Lexi works at Golden Corral. Her goal for this year is to make it through in one piece.

Sr. Larissa Encinias - Staff Reporter
Larissa Encinias is a senior and is currently serving her first year on the Guidon newspaper staff. In school, Encinias participates in Student Council and intramurals.
Outside of school, Encinias is involved in her church youth group, works at Golden Corral and does an internship at The Animal Health Center. Her goals for the year are to finish her senior year with good grades and attend Colorado State University in the fall.

Sr. Christina Engel - Staff Reporter
Christina Engel is a senior serving her first year on Newspaper. Inside
of school she is involved in BPA, intramurals, NHS, Webteam, and Spirit
Club.
Outside of school she works at JD's Chicken. Her goal is to make it to
graduation and then move to Lawrence to start school at KU.

Sr. Rachel Lantis - Staff Reporter
Rachel Lantis is a senior and is currently serving her second year on the Guidon newspaper staff. Besides being hard at work reporting stories, Lantis is in charge of the circulation and distribution of the newspaper to other schools. Besides the newspaper Lantis is involved in debate, Forensics, DECA, BPA and Model UN.
Outside of school you can find Rachel heavily involved in FLY her church youth group, and singing in the worship band. Lantis’s goals for the upcoming year are simple: owning over 150 pairs of shoes, and getting accepted into Clemson, with the goal of receiving her B.A in Economics and later attending Duke for her law degree.

Jr. Michael Raven - Staff Reporter Michael Raven is currently serving his first year on the Guidon newspaper staff. In school, he is heavily involved in debate and forensics. He is also a member of Peer Team. Outside of school, when not doing his homework, he enjoys being with his friends and working on debate. His weekends are usually spent in other towns across west Kansas at either debate or forensics tournaments.

Sr. Aimee Younger - Staff Reporter
Aimee Younger, senior, is currently serving her second year on the Guidon newspaper staff. Besides being on the newspaper staff, Younger is involved in Student Council during school.
Outside of school you can find her working at Christopher and Banks. Younger’s goal is to figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life.

Sr. Sheldon Niernberger - Graphics Editor
Sheldon Niernberger, senior, is currently serving his second year on the Guidon newspaper staff. Besides being on staff, Niernberger plays intramurals.
Outside of school you can find him working at Wal-Mart as a greeter and a cashier. Niernberger’s goals for the year are to make the honor roll and make it to summer.
