  1. Silly Putty – Silly Putty is not just for kids. Rolling it around can provide a physical outlet for pent up physiological symptoms. Shaping it, mashing it, rolling it flat or simply rolling it into a ball and squeezing it can provide the fidgeting mind with focus, relieve an accelerated heart rate and relax respiration.
  2. Exercise – Regular exercise relieves stress and boosts the immune system. Hours spent working can build up tension in the neck and shoulders leading to tension headaches. Getting up to stretch and take a walk can relax those kinks. Exercise is a recommended daily activity.
  3. Doodles – Doodling is a lost art. Doodling can actually help focus thoughts while giving the body an outlet for restless energy. Stress builds up a great deal of pent up energy that needs to go somewhere. Doodling kooky faces and shapes can also lead to smiling which relaxes tension in the jaw and face.
  4. Dancing – Music is therapeutic and dancing to music can improve pulse rate, respiration and mood. Whether the music is fast or slow, romantic or just bouncy, dancing to it provides a quick mental pick me up that relieves stress and releases endorphins.
  5. Get out of the rut – Making up new ways to do old things can be a great reliever of both stress and boredom. Try taking different routes when driving to school, or change the way you do ordinary tasks such as putting on makeup, fixing your hair, or getting dressed.
  6. Journal – Keeping a journal and writing down thoughts and feelings is an excellent way to release built up stress and anxieties. It’s also fun to look back on what you’ve written and relive the fun times and memories you come across.
