In honor of former wrestling coach Bob Kuhn, the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic will be taking place Jan. 20 and 21 at the high school. School will be dismissed at 2:30 Friday afternoon so the parking lot will be cleared for the 22 schools that will be attending.

“The 24-man bracket will run into the night on Friday until around 10 p.m.,” Athletic Director Clint Albers said. “It will start back up early Saturday morning and run until around 7 or 8 p.m. IDs are not permitted to get in, because it is a tournament.”

The price for a ticket will be $6 for adults and $4 for students in grades K-12. The tickets are good for all day, but a separate ticket is needed to get in on a different day.

Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic was formerly known as Hays Invitational. It started around 30 years ago and was a one day tournament. It then went on to be called the Senior Prairie Classic and was a two day tournament. About four years ago, it was changed to the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic in honor of former wrestling coach Bob Kuhn who died from cancer.

“I expect the boys to do very well at this tournament,” wrestling coach John Hafliger said. “Based on previous years, and how our season is going so far we could have a very good showing.”

Freshman Ethan Wadel and Ethan Deterding, sophomores Caleb Hecker and Preston Weigel, juniors Cade Albert, Jake Sedbrook, Leroy Franco, Kyler Meyers and Chandler Rule and seniors Kevin Arnhold, Derek Stiles, Brandon Weigel, Cash Drylie and Luke Madden will be representing the Indians for varsity.
