Junior Katie Brungardt has been involved with golf since the age of 4. Brungardt has been to state for golf all three years she has participated in the sport and placed second at her last state tournament. Her passion for golfing has allowed her to hone her skill and create close-knit friendships.

1. When did you get involved with golf?

“I started practicing golf when I was four, but I started tournaments my freshman year.”

2. Do you participate in any other sports?

“No I don’t.”

3. What is your favorite part about being on the golf team?

“My favorite part of being on the golf team are the suburban rides we take to each golf tournament and getting to know the team and laugh and have fun.”

4. What would you say your greatest achievement through golf has been?

“I would say that my greatest achievement would have been getting second at state.”

5. Has being involved in golf allowed you to create new friendships?

“Well since golf doesn’t really have a big team you get to know each person on the team at a personal level.”

6. Do any of your family members participate in golf?

“My dad and grandpa play golf.”

7. How often do you practice your sport?

“I try to practice during the week but I practice mostly during the weekends.”

8. Do you prefer to golf recreationally or competitively?

“I prefer golf as a competitive sport.”

9. Have you made it to state?

Yes, I’ve made it to state all 3 years. My freshman year I placed 26, then my sophomore year I placed 13, and this year I placed second.”

10. Is your family supportive of your decision to be involved with golf?

“Yes they are very supportive.”

11. Do you play to continue with golf outside of high school?

“Yes I plan to play golf in college.”

12. What are your passions outside of golfing?

“I don’t really have any outside of golf.”

13. What would you tell someone who was skeptical about joining the golf team?

“I would tell them that it’s a really great experience and even if you aren’t that great you can still learn how to play and have a lot of fun in the process.”
