Foreign exchange students enjoy America

Every year, Hays High gets foreign exchange students from different places in the world.

This year there are three foreign exchange students from Germany, and one from Brazil. Sophomore Marina Friedel, junior Lasse Boergers, and junior Anna Wilke are from Germany, and junior David Figueiredo De Miranda is from Brazil.

Friedel is enjoying America very much, and especially loves the food it has to offer.

“The food here is awesome,” Friedel said. “The other day I tried my first taco and it was amazing.”

Friedel and Boergers both agree that the food is healthier in Germany, but better tasting in America.

“The food is my favorite thing about America so far, but I also really like the sports,” Friedel said. “There is more a variety of sports here. We don’t have sports like football and baseball in Germany. The sports here are also more interesting.”

Boergers thinks that while Hays is nice, it is very small.

“In Germany the town I lived in was much bigger,” Boergers said. “We had a population of over 800,000.”

Boergers is also really enjoying our soccer team.

“My favorite thing here so far is spending time on the soccer field,” Boergers said.

Boergers and Friedel both agree the people here are very friendly.

“Everyone has been so nice to me, and welcoming,” Friedel said.

Boergers and Friedel are also both excited to see what the rest of this year has to offer.

I really hope that it’s a good exchange year,” Boergers said.
