Even though the election isn’t for another year, it has already become a major topic around the school. There are currently 15 Republican candidates and five Democratic candidates. Donald Trump is the leading GOP frontrunner and Hillary Clinton is the Democratic frontrunner.

Many students already have some opinions about the election, especially the seniors who will be able to vote in the upcoming election.

“I would vote Republican, and right now I’d probably vote for Marco Rubio or Ben Carson because I agree with them on many of their viewpoints.” senior Brooks Barber said. “I feel it is time to get a Republican back in the white house.”

Barber will be able to vote in the upcoming election.

“I plan to vote in all of the elections because I feel it is our responsibility and right as a citizen to do so,” Barber said.

“I would definitely vote Republican,” senior Blake Leiker said “I would definitely vote for Trump. I’d vote for him because he is not afraid to state his opinion, even if it might offend people. I feel he would make America great again, also I agree with his whole immigration plan. Obama made this country a dump so vote for Trump.”

Other seniors aren’t as sure and don’t have quite as strong opinions yet.

“I think the election is important,” senior Elizabeth Arthur said “I haven’t put the time to really think about it or who I’m going to vote for. I will probably vote Republican.”

Even though seniors, or students turning 18 are the only ones allowed to vote other students still have strong opinions about the election.

“The election is fun to participate in,” freshman Isaiah Schindler said “I would vote for Bernie Sanders because of education in general. He wants to help pay for peoples tuition in college. Or, I would also vote for Hillary Clinton because of her viewpoints in the American economy and in education.”

Some, such as freshman Landon Crispin said they agree with conservative views. Crispin said he would vote Carson if he were old enough.

“If I was 18 I would vote for Marco Rubio, he conveys a strong conservative message,” freshman Charles Mathias said. “He will bring America to a new century of freedom and prosperity. Also, he is young and not corrupt with great values to guide and lead by.”
