Math instructor Erin Deenihan’s teaching profession started here two years ago, in 2015.

While getting her degree at Fort Hays State University, Deenihan student taught for former math instructor Lisa Colwell.

Deenihan has always seemed to have the ability to teach in her.

“I’ve always done pretty well in school,” Deenihan said. “I was used to helping my peers with homework and I loved the feeling of being able to explain things in a way they could more easily understand.”

Besides teaching she considered multiple other career options including: architecture, law, and engineering. The only thing that seemed to stay consistent was teaching.

In particular, Deenihan enjoys teaching FST, specifically trigonometry.

“It has a lot of real life applications,” Deenihan said. “It’s also a subject that is completely new to kids when they come in. It’s cool to see students build up knowledge from a blank slate.”

Aside from her being able to bring knowledge into the world, Deenihan enjoys the students’ presence.

“I get to interact with so many different personalities in a day,” Deenihan said. “Also, it’s pretty amazing to see something ‘click’ for a student for the first time.”
