The band received a Superior I rating at the Western Athletic Conference Marching Festival in Garden City on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The band performed their halftime show, which began with the opener “Malaguena.” The song, “Satisfaction,” incorporated the dance team, and the closer “Over the Rainbow,” featured senior Sinjin Smith as the trumpet soloist, and a recap of “Malaguena.”

“I like our show this year,” band director Craig Manteuffel said. “I think it has a lot of variety to it, and I think the judges appreciated our musicality.”

This is the 10th consecutive year that the band has received a Superior I rating. There is one judge for each of the five judging categories, which are the marching and maneuvering judge, music judge, general effects judge, auxiliary judge (flag team and dance team), and a percussion judge.

The three ratings in the overall final rating are the first three categories. The majority score from the judges is the one given to the band.
