Nov. 17, International Club and Book Club met for a combined meeting. The topic for the month was the book “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. The club consumed Middle-Eastern food and discussed the book as well as International Club’s upcoming project, Pennies for Peace.
Students from the club will decorate jars to be placed around the community. The goal is to collect loose change to help build and supply schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“I think this is an awesome project to allow the community to reach out to a third world country,” senior and International Club Vice President Sarah Luedders said.
In the book, Mortenson said that building a school does more to promote global peace than sending soldiers. A small donation goes a long way to help educate an Afghani youth.
“A single penny can buy a pencil over there,” International Club sponsor Ann Adams said.
