The weight room is running low on space with athletes being crowded into a small area during zero hour.

Zero hour is a weights class before or after school that is designed for athletes who want to excel in their sports. In the class, athletes work on speed, agility and strength.

Working with the athletes all year round, Coach Ryan Cornelsen helps students reach their

potential. This program is intense and is designed to challenge the athletes to work hard.

“I am very impressed with the numbers,” Cornelsen said. “We are further ahead in our zero hour program than Hays High has ever been.”

The classes are combined with both genders. Cornelsen said there are more males that show up in the morning while females show up in the afternoon session.

As the weight room is filled past its capacity, students are forced to be separated in to groups in their session to maximize their work being accomplished.
