On Jan. 13, a 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti that has resulted in over 100,000 deaths. Port au Prince was hit hard and most of the buildings and homes were left as piles of rubble with people trapped under the wreckage. Other towns have had survivors coming in search of food, water, and shelter, and no resources can be found.
The little town of Pignon has had 11,000 refugees pour in. Haiti Home of Hope, an orphanage in Pignon, has taken in many orphaned children, single moms, and even patients that the hospital doesn’t have room for. The price of most goods has drastically increased and fuel is being rationed. The orphanage has set up a relief fund through their operating church in Kansas City. The donations will be used to provide food for the overflow of hospital patients, orphans, and temporary workers. It will also be used to provide fuel to power generators.
