For the months of January and February, students may choose to participate in intramurals. Teams consisting of various groups of friends compete against each other in basketball in a laid-back, less competitive environment than other school-organized sports. Junior Caitlyn Miller shared her experience with deciding to join an intramurals team. “A big group of us girls in DECA just decided to make a team one day during class,” Miller said. Junior Cody Brown had a different experience when joining. “My friends pressured me into joining,” Brown said. Junior Libby Fossum also put a team together with her friends. “My group of friends puts a team together every year,” Fossum said. “Even though we suck, we have the best time playing.” Brown hasn’t been participating as long as Fossum has. “This is my first year in intramurals,”Brown said. Brown said that he likes intramurals because it’s less competitive than other sports. “Intramurals is more laid-back than other sports,” Brown said. “I like being able to do whatever you want and not look stupid.” Sophomore Caitlin Billinger agreed with Brown. “I like just getting together with friends and playing against people, you know,” Billinger said. “Since no one plays seriously, it’s a lot of fun to just mess around.” Miller said that intramurals is a fun way to spend time with her friends. “My favorite part of intramurals is just being with everyone and having a good time,” Miller said. Miller said she is proud of her team this season. “Our team is doing amazing,” Miller said. 13dbrissonburns@usd489.com
