New teacher in the halls

Several new faces appeared this year in the classrooms and in the hall.

Now teaching Advanced and Regular Algebra I and Advanced Geometry is Josh Peterson. Previously he worked at TMP, where he taught some higher level math classes.

“I haven’t taught geometry for a couple years,” Peterson said. “But the algebra curriculum is the same as over there.”

Although he is still teaching math as he did at TMP, there are some differences in the day to day schedule that might take some getting used to. He went from teaching eight classes a day to only four because of Hays High’s block schedule.

“I thought it would be a huge change,” Peterson said. “However, both Mr. Pfannenstiel and Mr. Harris have been great helping me figure it out.”

Peterson already has a track record with sports. He wrestled in Abilene during high school and while he was in college at Fort Hays State University.

He used to be the head wrestling coach at TMP.

“I really love the sport and I greatly enjoy working alongside the athletes,” Peterson said.

Picking on a career path happened relatively recently. This is only Peterson’s fifth year as a teacher.

“I decided on teaching because I wanted to help students.”
