Our counseling secretary Paula Manteuffel will have been working here for fifteen years this coming July, having started working for district 489 in 1997 at Kennedy Middle School.
‘The best part of my job is the people and students I work with,” Manteuffel said.
Manteuffel has been organizing and helping students in our school for a long time, and she loves all the interesting people she meets.
She does different things for the students throughout the year, like taking calls, or, in the beginning of the year, she helps new students enroll, and right now, she’s getting online enrollment for next year ready.
“Mr. Manteuffel and I rarely cross paths throughout the day, but it’s nice to have similar schedules,” Manteufful said.
Her husband is the band teacher here at Hays High and often times during the day, he leaves to teach students at O’Loughlin Elementary School.
“There’s never a boring day,” Manteuffel said. ”There’s always something different.”
Every day, she sees or hears something different, such as a student coming with a problem or an interesting phone call she has to take.
“It’s amazing seeing students come here as freshmen and watching the changes they go through over the years,” Manteuffel said.
