Students adjust to new school year

As a new school year begins, many students are having to readjust in order to get back into the swing of things.

Some students are feeling like they are having a harder time adjusting to school as there have been many more changes throughout the school.

The schedule for this year was changed so students would be in school by 7:56 a.m. and out by 3 p.m. Many of the students have had to rearrange their schedules to be at school earlier.

“I’m not adjusting very well to the time change,” senior Rachel Stritt said. “I’ve lost 12 minutes to get ready in the morning, travel to school and ask teachers for help on homework.”

On the other hand, those with early meetings and sports practices and those who are used to waking up earlier may not be affected as much.

“School is just school I guess, there’s not a lot to get adjusted to,” Junior Cooper Flores said. “I’m always here early for certain things like StuCo meetings or stuff like that.”

The changing of staff and the forthcoming of new technology has also hindered the adjustments of many students. A few of the students interviewed said that they were having some issues with the newly issued tablets.

“At first, the technology was a little stressful because I was going in everyday to get it fixed,” sophomore Kourtney Muench said.

For the past couple of years, there has been talk about teachers going paperless and just using technology to access and post assignments, as well as take notes.

“The push to make everything paperless is a pain sometimes because I retain things better when I write stuff on paper,” junior Mkilar Otte said.

Another new change was the dismissal of school at 3 p.m. and the dismissal that will be taking place at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, starting in September.

Sophomore Katie Brungardt doesn’t seem to think that much will be affected.

“It doesn’t really change anything,” Brungardt said.

Sophomore Kourtney Muench says the early dismissal time works out better for her.

“School getting out at three just makes it easier for me to get to work on time,” Muench said. “the parking lot is normally cleared out by 3:20 p.m.”
