Halloween is quickly approaching, but October is also recognized for several other obscure observances.

For example, October is Adopt-a-Shelter Animal Month, and also Family History Month. October is National Pizza Month, National Clock Month, National Stamp Collecting Month, and National Rollerblading Month. National Fire Prevention Week is also celebrated in many elementary schools across the country.

The following “holidays” are some of the most outstanding of the lot:

Oct. 1 – Homemade Cookies Day

Oct. 2 – Name Your Car Day

Oct. 4 – National Golf Day

Oct. 5 – World Teacher Day

Oct. 9 – Leif Ericson Day

Oct. 12 – Columbus Day and Farmers Day

Oct. 15 – National Grouch Day

Oct. 16 – Boss’ Day and Dictionary Day

Oct. 17 – Sweetest Day

Oct. 18 – Alaska Day

Oct. 22 – National Nut Day

Oct. 25 – Mother-in-Law’s Day and National Denim Day

Oct. 28 – Plush Animal Lover’s Day
