Boys cross country team 5th at Great Bend

Senior Josh Munsch placed first at the Great Bend Invitational Cross Country meet on Sept. 3 to pace the Indians to a fifth-place team finish out of a nine-team field.

Munsch negotiated the 5K course in a time of 16:22.35, six seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Ness City. Junior Seth Tophoj also registered a top 10 finish as he ended up in fifth place with a time of 16:57.45.

Other individual results from the varsity meet were senior Vincent Bizzell, 29th, 19:09.98; sophomore Dallas Kaiser, 47th, 19:52.96; junior Ryan Pfeifer, 55th, 20:55.71; and sophomore Kevin Arnhold, 56th, 21:06.81.

As a team, the Indians had 129 points to place behind Liberal with 54, Ness City with 74, Hutchinson with 92, and Holcomb with 97. Other team finishes were Great Bend, 142; Dodge City, 143; Buhler, 178; and Salina South, 227.

Junior Varsity

In JV action, Hays took third with 84 points. Liberal put six runners in the top 10 to finish first with 20 points, followed by Dodge City with 62. Other JV squads were Garden City, 90; Holcomb, 107; and Salina South, 155.

Individual results included:  senior Christopher Schlim, 9th, 20:27.46; junior Korey Pfannenstiel, 15th, 20:55.56; sophomore Jake Nelson, 25th, 22:07.04; junior Mitchell Dickinson, 26th, 22:08.45; senior Logan Arnold, 29th; 22:22.27; and senior Garreth Stegman, 46th, 25:56.72.

The squad will travel to Hutchinson for its next meet on Sept. 10.
