Tennis squad 2nd at Hays Invitational

Paced by a first and second-place finish of its two doubles teams, the Indian Gold tennis squad came away with a second-place finish at the Hays Invitational on Sept. 3.

Sophomore Paige Lunsford returns a shot from the baseline during #1 doubles at the Hays Invitational. She took fourth overall.
Seniors Anne Bannister and Renee Kippes ended up in second place overall in #1 doubles, while first place in #2 doubles went to juniors Whitney Hickert and Abbey Homburg.
As a team the Indians finished with 38 points, just three shy of first-place finisher Colby with 41. Norton took third with 30, followed by Victoria, 26; Plainville and Russell, 19; a mixed team comprised of players from several schools, 12; and Hays Maroon 9.
Other individual results for Hays Gold were Paige Lunsford, fourth in #1 singles, and Hanna Pfannenstiel, fourth in #2 singles.
Competing for the mixed squad were freshman Alyssa Reed, who took eighth in #1 singles, and freshmen Megan Bird and Janae Gagnon, fourth in #2 doubles.
For Hays Maroon, sophomore Mikayla Denning and freshman Shelby Dinkel came away with seventh place finishes in #1 and #2 singles, respectively.
In doubles action for Maroon, sixth place went to the #1 doubles team of sophomores Bonnie McRae and Jill Taylor. Sophomores Katelyn Hecker and Madeline Trout took seventh in #2 doubles.
The Indians will resume action on Sept. 8 at Great Bend.
