Top 10 finishes pace girls cross country team

Three members of the girls cross country team came away with top 10 finishes at the Great Bend Invitational on Sept. 3.

Leading the way was sophomore Madeline Kasra in fourth place with a time of 17:28.63. Two spots behind in sixth was senior Kylie Gaughn with a time of 17:43.98. Taking eighth with a time of 17:50.20 was junior Bailey Zimmerman.

As a team, the Indians ended with 74 points to finish behind Buhler and Great Bend with 57 and 58 points, respectively. Hutch took fourth with 82, followed by Liberal, 124; Ness City, 134; and Salina South, 148.

Other individual results included a 26th place result for senior Ellie Kasra, who completed the 4K course in a time of 18:43.60. Freshman Kylee Filley was 33rd with a time of 19:22.51, while senior Michelle Harris ended up in 40th with a time of 20:02.92.

Junior Varsity

In JV action, only four competed for Hays so the Indians were not involved in the team race. Individual results included senior Sarah Wiesner, 18th, 21:03.29; freshman Ashley Springer, 20th, 21:14.44; junior Kristin Coen, 26th, 22:20.34; and junior Kursti Hileman, 39th, 24:01.01.

The girls will resume action on Sept. 10 in Hutchinson.
