Clark hits three to win game over second ranked Abilene

Junior Derek Bixenman lit up the scoreboard against second ranked Abilene, but the real hero was sophomore Lane Clark who hit a three with two seconds left in the fourth for the 52-49 victory over the Cowboys.

The game was close throughout the night with the two teams battling back-and-fourth.

At the end of the first quarter Abilene led 18-15.

A five point swing occurred in the second quarter when Abilene missed a dunk and the Indians got the rebound before pushing the ball up to sophomore Jordan Windholz who hit a three. At the half the score had been cut to one as the Cowboys lead 28-27.

Hays was able to take the lead in the third quarter as the team claimed a five point lead, 43-38, going into the final quarter of play.

With 15 seconds left the score was tied at 49 as Bixenman had the ball at the top of the key to get the last shot. With seven seconds left Bixenman drove to the basket, with which the Abilene defense collapsed onto him as he kicked the ball out to sophomore Lane Clark who hit a three win two seconds left as the crowd went wild.

The boys were then able to hang onto the lead as Abilene tried to heave the ball down the court which was intercepted by freshman Brady Werth to secure the 52-49 win.

Bixenman led the team in points with 16, while Windholz added 11.

The next game for the boys is Feb. 17, versus Garden City.
