Girls cross country takes third at regionals, headed to state

The girls cross country team finished third at regionals on an extremely hot afternoon. Held at Hays on Oct. 25, the Indians qualified for state.

“Our kids ran with a lot of heart,” Coach Harris said. “Coach Kaiser, Coach Rieth and myself could not be any prouder of our athletes.”

Hays finished with 105 points, behind Clay Center with 33 and Hugoton with 66.

Individually, sophomore Marie Reveles took 10th with a time of 16:49. Junior Haley George and sophomore Alyssa Bryant took 12th and 21st with times of 16:52 and 17:18. Senior Summer Smith took 29th with a time of 17:41. Freshman Madison Schmidt and junior Courtney Green took 46th and 48th with times of 18:11 and 18:12. Rounding out the scoring was freshman Tana Herreman, taking 61st with a time of 19:07.

State will be held at Rimrock in Lawrence on Oct. 31.
