Boys basketball takes second in Orange and Black Classic

Last week, the boys basketball team took second in the Orange and Gold Classic tournament in Colby. At its conclusion, the Indians had a 9-3 record on the year.

Coming off a recent defeat to Garden City, the Indians came out strong, winning the first game against the Fountain Fort Carson Trojans, 77-65 on Jan. 22.

Off to a good start, the Indians ended the first quarter up 18-14. Over the next periods, the team kept its lead, and entered the last period up 56-41.

Brady Werth was the leading scorer with 22 points, along with three assists and one steal. Keith Dryden and Isaiah Nunnery each added 16 points to the board. Shane Berens was also in double digits with 10 points, and Drew Young added four. Maddux Winter, Cash Hobson and Nathan Romme all added three.

The second game of the tournament pit the Palmer Ridge Bears against our boys, and again the Indians came out on top. The final score was 73-62.

Again, the Indians ended the first quarter ahead, 21-13. Even though they were outscored in the third quarter, the boys held their lead and entered the final period with a 57-49 advantage.

Brady Werth again led the team in scoring, racking up a total of 17 points. Drew Young and Isaiah Nunnery had 14 and 13 points respectively, and Keith Dryden had nine. Maddux Winter and Shane Berens each added six points, and both Cash Hobson and Nathan Romme added four.

The final game of the Orange and Gold Classic was close, and the Indians fought hard against the Scott City Beavers. However, the game ended in a 62-57 defeat for our boys.

Ending the first quarter up 18-16, the Indians were then outscored by the Beavers and entered the final period with a 49-44 disadvantage. The final quarter yielded 13 points by each team, resulting in the third defeat of the season for the boys basketball team.

Isaiah Nunnery and Brady Werth led the scoring, each with 19 points. Shane Berens ended the game with 13 points on the board, and Cash Hobson added six.
