MacKenzie Wiley

MacKenzie Wiley is a sophomore and is serving her first year on the Hays High Guidon staff. She is involved in track, intramurals, and plays softball during the summer. Outside of school she works at Applebee’s as a hostess and hangs out with friends. She likes the color pink, rain, organizing things, and football games. After high school she plans to attend college and do something in the field of radiology.

Lauren Pallister

Lauren Pallister is a junior on the Hays High Guidon staff. She’s also on the Hays Hurricane swim team and will be on the Hays High swim team this coming season. This is her first year on the staff and she mainly does graphics and art for Guidon. She loves listening to music and hanging out with friends when she’s not constantly working. She hopes to major in art or working at a hospital in the near future!

Lindsey Schmeidler

Lindsey Schmeidler is a junior at Hays High School and is serving her second year on the Guidon staff. She has the privilege of being the Layout Editor this year. Outside of newspaper Lindsey can be found playing basketball or volleyball, she is also involved in webteam, Student Council, Leadership Team, National Honor Society, and DECA. Some of her favorite things include reading liberally, jogging while the sun is setting, hanging out with her family, Safetysuit, JD’s nights with her friends, Jimmie Johns, and her six disc Band of Brothers collection edition with a fold-out three foot poster.

Sami Hobson

Sami Hobson is the Sports Editor for the Guidon, and this is her first year on the staff. She enjoys music, golf, and drinking coffee. She is also an avid reader and movie watcher. This year, she hopes to maintain a 4.0 during her junior year and have tons of fun doing it.

Chelsey Smith

Chelsey Smith is a junior who is actively involved with the kickin’ All-Kansas Newspaper, FFA and the amazing leadership team.  Outside of school she participates in State 4-H activities.  Her goals for this year include: having an All-Kansas newspaper again, becoming a Pacemaker Publication, placing high at National Land Judging, and placing in the top 15 at state livestock judging, making National 4-H Conference or Youth Council.

Bonnie McRae

Bonnie McRae is a sophomore on the Hays High Guidon staff. She’s also in Stuco and Spirit Club and plays softball and tennis. This is her first year on the staff and she mainly writes sports articles. She loves listening to music and hanging out with friends. She would also like to maintain a 4.0 GPA this year, but that is highly unlikely as she tends to procrastinate. She likes Chinese food, the color orange, and smiling.

Christina Carreira

Christina Carreira is a junior at Hays High School. Along with being part of the newspaper staff, she has the privilege and responsibility of being their Advertising Manager. She joined the Guidon staff at semester last year, and has loved all of the new friends and fun experiences made in the class. Carreira is involved in National Honor Society, BPA, StuCo, Spirit Club, Cheerleading, and Webteam outside of Newspaper. During her time spent outside of school she loves to be with her friends, family, and beautiful dog, Mia.

Kellen Griffin

Kellen Griffin is a freshman and the only male on the newspaper staff (he would appreciate if there were more males). He plays soccer, basketball, and track. He is also in STUCO. This year Griffin is hoping to maintain a 4.0 GPA. For the Guidon he mainly write sports stories. Outside of school and newspaper he enjoys playing video games, hanging out with friends, but pretty much everything he does has to deal with soccer and he is on the Kansas State soccer team. He also traveled to England for two weeks at the beginning of August to play soccer with people from all over the U.S. against teams from England.

Erica Staab

Erica Staab is a sophomore and this is her first year on the Guidon staff. In school, she participates in band, forensics and student council. Outside of school she goes to Karate Fitness, where sparing is one of her favorite activities. She goes to CYO at Saint Mary’s church. She likes to hang out with her friends, watch movies, listen to music, and eat ice cream. Erica hopes to finish the year with a 4.0 and just enjoying life.

Cora Jaeger

Junior, Cora Jaeger serves her first year as a staff reporter for the Guidon. She participates in Band, Flag Team, Musical, Forensics, and Spring Play within the school year. Out of school Jaeger is involved in 4-H and is currently president of her club. Jaeger enjoys reading vast amounts of books, rain, cozy sweaters, food of all sorts, trees, and taking Hastings by storm with her friends. She hopes to excel in her academics and extracurricular activities.

Shelby Staab

Shelby Staab, Editor-in-Chief, is a senior, continuing her third year as a member of The Guidon. Staab is actively involved in school; a member of Webteam, Leadership Team, Secretary and Treasurer of BPA, and the President of the National Honor Society. She’s currently employed at Applebee’s as a server/hostess. Some of her favorite things include lettuce wraps from P.F. Changs, the color blue, spending time with her brothers, airports, John Hughes movies, Anberlin, and early mornings. She plans to attend Kansas State University in the fall with a double major in Computer Science and Digital Arts.

Jackie Balzer

Jackie Balzer is a sophomore and it is her first year on the Guidon Staff as a reporter. She participates in band by flagging during marching season and playing tenor saxophone during concert season. She strives to do her very best academically. Outside of school she goes to North Oak Community Church and participates in Lifeguard (their high school youth group). She loves to watch movies and could do exactly that all day, every day. She looks forward to the rest of her sophomore year working hard on her school work and being a member of the Guidon Staff.

Anne Bannister

Anne Bannister is a senior and Online Editor for the Guidon.  Other activities for Anne include Chamber Singers, tennis, musical, spring play, book club, and international club.  She also participates in the Hays Public Library Drama Club and works on independent film projects in her free time.  Bannister hopes to get out of state for college but has not yet selected an area of study.

Kit Schwarz

Kit Schwarz is a junior this year and is a reporter for the Guidon. She dances for the Flair dance team, sings in the musical, and enjoys music. She loves to dance, sing, eat, and take photography. She works at JD’s and for her family. She plans on getting a 4.0 this year and wants to get a high score on her ACT. She loves cruising around town in her ’93 Honda Civic blasting her subs to the max. She also loves long walks and Jesus is her number one.

Lauren Wright

Lauren Wright is a junior and this is her first year as a member of the Guidon staff. During the school year Wright is involved in the musical and the spring play. She is working hard during her junior year to maintain a 4.0 and just get through the semesters without busting too many blood vessels. In her free time she enjoys jamming on her guitar, baking desserts, watching movies, reading, being a goody two-shoes, and hanging out with cool people.

Madison Schultz

Madison Schultz, News Editor, is a junior serving her second year on the Guidon. When she isn’t helping with the paper, she’s working as a cashier at the Dillon’s on Hall. Other activities Schultz participates in include the spring play and International Club. This year, Schultz hopes to maintain a 4.0, take an All-Kansas Award, and place in Editing at State. In her free time, Schultz enjoys singing in the rain, napping with her dog, speaking German, and putting off her responsibilities in favor of more frivolous pursuits, such as all-day Band of Brothers marathons and excursions to Hastings with her friends.

Micayla Greathouse

Micayla Greathouse, staff reporter, is currently serving her first year on the newspaper staff as a junior.  She is involved in music activities within the school, such as band and choir.  She also enjoys being a flag captain for the marching band Flag Corps.  Outside of school, she is involved in many church activities, including being a worship leader for the youth group band at North Oak Community Church. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with friends, read, write, sing, and play the piano.  Some things she loves are the color blue, changes in seasons, and Fridays. In her future, she hopes to have some sort of career in writing or music.
