That time has come again. This school year is in its final semester and the now eighth graders will become known as next year’s freshman.

On Feb. 17 the eighth graders of both Felten and Kennedy Middle School will attend Hays High to get a tour of the school and have a chance to hear from the counselors and Leadership Team what high school life will be like.

Each student will be put into a group of four to five kids and will be paired with one member on the leadership team. Half of the small groups will be touring the school building getting a feel for what electives are available. The other half will be going over the course guide and discussing enrolment, credits, and required classes, etc. Around 10 a.m. the eighth graders will be attending the games assembly.

“It’s a fun day for us to showcase Hays High,” counselor Sherri Matlock said. “Leadership Team does a great job of helping the kids relax and answering any questions they have.”

When asked what they thought about high school before having been to or heard about it, these are what a few eighth graders said:

“It feels like eighth grade just started. I’m not ready for high school.” – Shelby Schumacher

“I’m looking forward to it. I heard it is way better than middle school.” – Landon Munsch

“I’m ready for high school to meet more people and get to do some more sports.” – Madison Kaus

“I think I’m ready. It’s just kind of scary.” – Courtney Keener

“I’m kind of nervous because it’s a bigger school and there are bigger people.” – Reagan Kaiser

“I’m scared I am going to get lost.” – Haley Wells

“I’m excited because there’s only four more years of school left until college. Also I get to drive to school.” – Lyle Russell

The following Monday, the parents will have the opportunity to come up and get a tour of the high school and ask any questions they may have.
