Soccer picks up first victory of season
The boys soccer team won for the first time this season 3-0 in the first round of the McPherson Invitational against Salina South.
“It felt good to get the first shutout of the season,” senior Hunter Wilkens said. “I couldn’t have done it without the defense.”
Senior Tanner Staab scored the lone goal in the first half off of a long ball from junior Kellen Griffin.
In the second half sophomore Shawn Herrman scored on an open goal off of a pass from fellow sophomore Jordan Windholz.
Griffin then scored the last goal of the game off of a pass from Windholz with three minutes left in the game.
“I thought we played very sloppy the first 20 minutes, but the rest of the game we played well,” junior Ethan Fort said.
The next game for the boys soccer team is Thursday, Sept. 8 against McPherson in the semi-finals of the McPherson Invitational.
