Students define success

As individuals get older, they start to notice that they view many things differently from their peers. One of the things that people may see as different is what they define success as.

Success can be many things. Such as becoming a billionaire, having a high-ranking job, graduating school or even getting married and having kids. It all just depends on what a person’s personal views are.

Junior Austin Befort said that graduating from college and having a good job is what he would define success as.

“You have to work really hard to be a successful person,” Befort said. “You have to dress the part too. When I think of a successful person I immediately think of someone in a suit and tie. Success is whatever you perceive success to be.”

Freshman Skylar Weilert said that setting goals and then accomplishing them is how she would define success.

“You have to be really determined in order to be successful,” Weilert said. “Personally, I want to get through college and have a job that I love that also pays well. Once I achieve those goals, I’ll consider myself a successful person.”

Sophomore Veranika Fuller said that she thinks getting married and having children would be her definition of success.

“Everyone has their own way of seeing things,” Fuller said. “I just want to get through school, get married, and maybe have kids. I think that would make me a successful person. But really, all that matters is if I’m happy.”

To students like sophomore Sierra Eichman and junior Adam Brungardt, success is all about happiness.

“There’s so many ways a person can become successful,” Eichman said. “But I think you’re truly a winner once you achieve happiness. If you’re happy with your life, then you are successful. Things like money help, but you can’t just buy happiness.”

Brungardt said that even if a person is considerably well paid they can still be unsuccessful if they aren’t happy with their life.

“Happiness is everything,” Brungardt said. “If you aren’t happy, then what’s the point in being successful? Just being super rich won’t always make you happy. But in all honesty, I haven’t ever seen a sad or angry person driving a Lamborghini.”
