Healthy Relationship week discussing Jana’s Campaign ended last week Friday, but the message Jana’s Campaign sends out is still ringing in the students’ ears. Jana’s Campaign was started with the single mission of reducing gender and relationship violence. Through the program’s activities, Jana’s Campaign aims to play a significant role in breaking the cycle of domestic and dating violence and be the social catalyst for change. Students expressed their opinions on how they felt about Healthy Relationship and Jana’s Campaign.

“I thought that Jana’s Campaign was a great thing to for the students,” senior Trenton Henningsen said. “It was a great idea to inform students on what domestic violence is because some people think it is only physical, but it is also emotional.”

Junior Brandon Davidson said he not only liked what Jana’s Campaign but what Hays High is doing to promote awareness for domestic abuse.

“I think what our school has been doing with promoting awareness is great,” Davidson said. “I really do believe that many boys and girls will benefit and hopefully prevent them from having to go through the same experiences that some of our speakers went through.

“I also believe more students and faculty will be able to identify the red flags that can unfortunately occur in relationships,” Davidson said.

Senior Benjamin Rajewski said the campaign and Healthy Relationships week was cool and informative.

“The presentation on Monday was very powerful, while the one on Friday was super cool,” Rajewski said. “I didn’t see how it fit with the rest of the week, but overall it was splendid.”

Jana’s Campaign partners with other advocates such as activists, victims, the criminal justice system and lawmakers. Jana’s Campaign seeks to reduce and respond to gender violence by pursuing a strategy built on five program areas.
