Home remedies are becoming a popular alternative to taking medicines or buying expensive products. Many students use home remedies to cure sickness or for other issues as a ‘healthier’ substitute to pharmaceuticals.

Sophomore Kristen Nease said she would recommend home remedies to anyone willing to try them out.

“My family uses remedies all the time,” Nease said. “We use remedies for everything like the flu, strep, bacteria, or basically any illness. I think that home remedies are much better for people than any man made medicine out there today.”

Students like senior Lexie Reinhardt and junior Isabella Lee said they use home remedies for beauty reasons.

“I use coconut oil for smooth legs,” Lee said. “Coconut oil can also be used for teeth.  I’ve really seen the oil work for my legs, but not so much on my teeth.”

“I love using home remedies and I would definitely suggest rubbing coconut oil on your legs if you want them to be smooth. It works really well and lasts for a long time.”

Reinhardt said she believes in most home remedies and uses a few of her own.

“There are things you can do like putting mayonnaise and olive oil in your hair, Reinhardt said. “I’ve heard of a lot of different hair-related remedies. I hardly ever do them though. I usually do things like using a lemon and oil body scrub.”

Junior Brandon Davidson said he uses home remedies because his parents like to use them.

“I believe in natural cures,” Davidson said. “Garlic can help you get over a cold because it stimulates the immune system. Lemon juice is another thing that’s good for your body, too.”

Sophomores Alyssa Werth and Makenzie Giess said they don’t use home remedies but would consider trying them out.

“I haven’t really ever used a home remedy for anything,” Werth said. “I hear about them all the time though. If I ever hear a convincing one then I will try it out, but so far nothing has really caught my eye.”
