Last year, aspiring musician sophomore Hannah Norris had already launched her music career with the release of her first original album “The Heartland”.

But Norris’s music has started to really develop and become well known throughout the area this year. Her big debut will be on July 3 when she will be opening for Wild West Fest.

“About December, I had to contact the Wild West Fest committee and submit a short description of my work and some samples,” Norris said. “And I guess they liked what they heard because they offered me an opening spot.”

Norris will get an hour of playing time, in which she will play both originals and covers.

“This will be the largest show I will play up to date,” Norris said. “I haven’t played for a crowd for a while, so I’m looking forward to it.”

On April 10, Norris had the opportunity to play a live set for the radio station KSDB92 at Kansas State University.

“Everyone at the radio station was really cool,” Norris said. “It was my first radio show, but I really enjoyed it so I hope I get the chance to play more.”

Norris also recently released her second original album “Red Winter” on March 31.

“My album has better song writing progressions compared to my first album,” Norris said. “I just shows my progress in the last year.”

Electric guitar, acoustic, and mandolin are the main instruments played in this album.

“I’m looking forward to expanding my sound and working with other musicians,” Norris said.

In the composing of Norris’s second album, not all songs she had written were used.

“Since I had more of a selection, I could choose to have a more coherent sound,” Norris said. “This makes it more of an actual album.”

The album “Red Winter” is available on Norris’s Bandcamp account, but the CD has not been officially released yet.

“When I get the CDs, I also hope to have my songs available on iTunes,” Norris said.

Writing for a third album has started, and Norris expects it to come out around the same time next year.

“I’ve been listening to a more diverse range of music lately,” Norris said. “So I hope to continue to develop a style of music that is unique to me.”

To listen to Norris’s music, both “The Heartland” and “Red Winter” are available for listening on her Bandcamp account hannahnorris.bandcamp.com.
