‘Once On This Island’ receives 11 Jester awards

Out of 15 nominations, the fall musical, ‘Once On This Island’ won 11 Jester awards on May 13.

‘Once On This Island’ received awards for stage design, stage crew, sound, lights, lobby design, musical direction, orchestra, chorus, direction of the show and overall production.

Senior Rachel Nansel played the part of ‘Asaka’ for the fall musical.

“This is the last time I’ll perform musical songs with the high school,” Nansel said. “I’m sort of sentimental about it, but I’m also pretty excited.”

The cast of the musical was selected to perform at the ceremony.

In order to prepare for the awards, students rehearsed the song ‘We Dance’, at 12th Street Auditorium. Students left for Wichita on Friday at noon to the Wichita Orpheum.

“We saw some wonderful talent from so many high schools,” choral instructor Johnny Matlock said. “It was a great night of celebrating music theatre. I am proud of the cast of ‘Once On This Island’.”
