Sub Chelsea Jonte talks with her class. This is the third day she has been at the school.

Science teacher Kayla Bell is out of the school on maternity leave and Chelsea Jonte will be subbing for her until March 3.

This is Jonte’s first year subbing, but before coming here, she was teaching in Victoria. Her teaching includes five different subjects.

“I’ve taught human anatomy, biology, physical science, chemistry and a little bit of physics,” Jonte said.

Jonte, who just finished school in December, has only really been a sub for three days.

“I hadn’t planned on being a sub until Mrs. Shepard-Adams reached out to me,” Jonte said.

Her job consists of teaching six classes. She plans lessons for the Chemistry classes and has help from teacher Beth Schiel on biology.

Jonte’s Fort Hays schooling consisted of many things.

“I have two associates degrees, one in wildlife biology and one in general art education,” Jonte said. “I have my bachelors which is in biology and secondary education.”

Jonte says that she’s excited to be in a different environment.

“I think that it’s helping me get a lot of experience for when I have to find a permanent place,” Jonte said.
