The Hays Symphony Orchestra will be providing free music for those attending the concert. The concert will feature music performed by high school students.

A free Hays Symphony concert will be offered to anyone on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Beach Schmidt.

The event will consist of a pre-concert talk at 6:45 p.m., Americana displays, an American as Apple Pie auction and a post-concert reception.

Those taking part in the event consist of Orchestra instructor Joan Crull, senior Trinity Callis; junior Carl Rorstrom, and Alex Hagerman, and sophomore Tom Drabkin.

Crull and Drabkin agree that the music is difficult and fast, but Crull believes that the students will be able to manage.

“I think that if they practice, they’ll do fine,” Crull said. “They’re going to have to really, really practice.”

The group practices are long and strict according to Drabkin and Rorstrom.

“This is actually my second time playing in it,” Rorstrom said. “They’re (the practices) very long and very intense, but they’re good. They bring the whole group together so we can play rather than just our individual practices.”

Those involved will be playing four songs, and Crull invites those who would like to come.

“You can get tickets there at the box office at the lobby, or the Hays Visitor Center,” Crull said. “Come, come, there is something to do in Hays.”
