Mathletes take second in division at math relays
Out of all the categories including using number sense, trigonometry, algebraic manipulations, informal geometry and measurement, applications of algebra and arithmetic and calculations with calculators, second place in the division was taken on Nov. 9 in the math relays at Fort Hays.
Those who participated include seniors Garrett Gregg, Lacey Gregory, Autumn Hohmann, Dawson Rooney, Lisa Schoenberger and Zach Wagner; juniors Isabelle Braun, Kallie Leiker, Kayli Potter, Taylor Schiffelbein and Spencer Wittkorn; sophomores Carson Ackerman, Nathan Erbert and Taylor Weidenhaft and freshmen Andrew Duke, Nic Park and Dalyn Schwarz.
Out of 741 kids, several of those students placed in the top ten in their grades.

Instructor Dustin Dreher recruited the students to compete in the relays.
“I’m happy with how the kids performed,” Dreher said. “They played hard throughout the day. We were hoping we could come away with a first place after finishing so close the last couple of years. McPherson’s a good team. They’re solid all the way up the lineup. I thought our kids performed very well.”
