Tribe Radio is set to begin this February.

A student-run radio station named Tribe Radio is set to begin in February. The station will broadcast news, weather, sports, school information and music.

Tribe Radio will have a wide range of music being played from 70s rock to today’s pop.

Instructor Dan Balman has wanted to start a radio station for years. Once the idea was proposed junior Isaiah Schindler, junior Jackson Stanton, senior Carlos Sanchez and sophomore Zoe Buffington joined in on it.

“We had to do plenty of research, and we made sure that our ducks were in a row before presenting it to administration,” Balman said. “Mr. Albers and Mr. Straub seemed to like the idea, so they approved it.”

They have obtained a room to work out of and they are getting a computer to stream off of. They paid for all of this with money from a general fund that 489News has.

“It was relatively easy to get all that bought and setup,” Balman said.

Tribe Radio is very close to being ready for students to listen to. As soon as all the finishing details are in place they will be ready.

“Given that we have our internet radio licensing already, we are about to get our computer, and that the studio is almost finished, we’ll begin in February,” Balman said.

Students can listen to Tribe Radio through Hays High’s website and the 489News website, where they will have their subdomain. They will also be found on TuneIn once they have their server setup and sent over to them.
