Scholars Bowl is barely knocked out before the final rounds after being placed against the two top teams in their division during the tournament.

Scholars Bowl came extremely close to making it into the finals at the state scholars bowl tournament on Feb. 10, losing on a tie-breaker question.

“In pool play, we easily beat Garnett-Anderson County and Chanute, then fell to Andover Central and WIchita Collegiate,” Shepherd-Adams said. “In the last round of pool play, we lost to Shawnee Mission-Bishop Miege by one tie-breaker question. This meant that Bishop Miege went on to the finals and we didn’t.”

Wichita Collegiate went on to take first place in the 4A division at state as well as Andover Central taking second.

“To have lost to those two teams isn’t dishonorable at all,” Shepherd-Adams said. “We did stay to watch the rest of the competition so we’d know what to expect the next time we go to state.”

Senior Brendan Chapman, captain of the Scholars Bowl team, was proud that the Scholars Bowl team he captained was the first to ever make state.

“I’m probably the biggest nerd in school history now,” Chapman said. “But that’s okay, and I’m happy we were able to compete at such a high level for the first time.”
