The Kansas State Assessments are a government mandated evaluation of students.

On Monday, March 12, State Assessment testing begins with sophomore Math Assessments. Students will report to their academies on that day and there will be extended academy.

The State Assessments will also take place March 26 through 29 with sophomore English Assessments and April 10 through 13 with junior Science Assessments. These assessments will take place in their English and Chemistry classes and will not warrant academy schedule.

The juniors will test in Social Science areas from April 16 through 19. The juniors will also take American History Assessments in their history class.

Instructor Jerett Pfannenstiel said that the State Assessments, for math, are covered in the curriculum.

“Our curriculum is aligned to the state standards, and the state assessment covers the state standards,” Pfannenstiel said. “The state assessments are to help us fulfill a part of our accreditation process for Hays High. They allow us to measure the students learning and let teachers know if we are correctly teaching our curriculum.”
