Only two varsity boys were able to run at Rimrock for state.
Senior Seth Tophoj placed sixth with a time of 16:45 and senior Eli Fort placed 37th with a time of 17:35.
The boys raced a 5k with 100 other runners in the race. The race consisted of 12 teams, but the boys weren’t allowed to place as a team, due to the fact they only had two runners.
Varsity girls were pleased they didn’t come in last on Saturday.
Senior Bailey Zimmerman placed 13th with a time of 16:30.
Sophomore April Johnson (18:05), freshman Wendy Zimmerman (18:03), senior Kelli Oppliger (18:31), junior Paige Lunsford (18:43), freshmen Shelby Matlock (19:26) and Reagan Kaiser (19:37) also raced along with 97 other girls.
The girls ended 10th out of 12th.
“As a team I think we improved so much,” senior Bailey Zimmerman said. “We weren’t placing very well at league meets, but when it came down to regionals the meet that mattered all of the girls stepped up and we got second. Then we made it to state.”
