Band participated in the Fort Hays Music Festival on April 19. They received straight I ratings from all three judges.
“We performed ‘King Cotton’ concert march by John Phillips Sousa and the first three movements of ‘Puszta’ (gypsy dances) by Jan van der Roost,” band director Craig Manteuffel said. “This is very difficult music and we performed well.”
Students this year found the straight I ratings to be a little surprising, but feel that towards the end, it all came together.
“I think we did okay this year,” senior Torrey Contrerez said. “I was surprised by the straight I ratings.”
This will make it the 8th year in a row to receive one ratings at state large groups. In the 16 years that Manteuffel has been at Hays High, 15 of them the band has received I ratings.
“Everyone should attend the spring concert on May 10 at 8 pm,” Manteuffel said.
