Musical boys take a turn for the unorthodox

Dance call backs for “Bye Bye Birdie” musical auditions consisted of several girls and boys performing a dance routine choreographed by Tawnita Augustine.

The girls performed a sultry routine to the song “All That Jazz” from the musical “Chicago”. After the girls  auditions, the boys went up for their turn.

Instead of switching gears immediately, Augustine decided she wanted to see the boys perform the flashy dance.

“I could have been more saucy with it,” junior Eric Adams said. “I think it was good for us because it loosened us up for our actual dancing.”

Junior Ryan Will, junior Michael Hernandez, junior Adam Klausmeyer, junior Tanner Eiland, senior Cooper Flores, and senior Eric Rorstrom dance with choreographer Tawnita Augustine during auditions.

Senior Eric Rorstrom said he also thought the dance routine helped calm his nerves.

“It was a little awkward,” Rorstom said.

Senior Cooper Flores said the experience of the routine was fun.

“It was different,” Flores said. “I’m glad I got the chance to get rid of my nerves beforehand. It was a good time.”
