Second Annual Hays Medical Fair at Hays Med.

The Second Annual Medical Fair held at Hays Medical Center occurred on Nov. 5.  This fair was made possible by the KU Medical Center AHEC and also Hays Med.

The fair was called ‘Journeys and Destinations: Exploring Careers in Health and Science.’ Students who attended include sophomores Tristan Callis, Shayla Cochran, Becky Meagher, Kirsten Ellard, Mattison Schlaefli, Lexie Schaben, Alex Crowley and Sydney Vahling.  Juniors that attended were Samantha Rohleder, Alexa Brull, Joshua Adcock, Abbey Rupke, Carly Schmidt, Sara Nansel, Haley Wells, Madison Kaus and Sana Cheema.  Seniors that attended were Derek Bixenman, Madeleine Brungardt, Kaitlin Gulley, and Yu-Hsuan Sun. Each student attended five sessions. Of those five sessions, students chose their first two.

Session options included Dietitian, EMT/Pre-Hospital, Exercise Physiology/Fitness Instructor, Human Resources, Medical Forensics, Nursing-Obstetrics, Pharmacy, Physician-Cardiology, Psychology/Social Work/Mental Health, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy, Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy and Technology.

Chief Medical Officer at Hays Med., Larry Watts began the day with a speech about a path to a career in the medical field.  During lunch, students heard a speech about professionalism from Terry Siek, the Chief Nursing Officer at Hays Med.
