To encourage and share creative talent within the student body, The Guidon has launched an online literary magazine.

The site can be found by clicking on a tab in the main menu of the main Guidon website, or by entering the URL: the-guidon-lit.tumblr.com

Senior Fengxue (Sylina) Zhang, founder of The Guidon Lit, sat down and designed a platform for her idea over the summer.

“There are so, so many talented writers, photographers, artists and musicians out there,” Zhang said. “Most of their work is hidden in files on their computers, and so much talent goes undiscovered and unrecognized.”

Zhang hopes that in having an online literary magazine, students will be able to submit their own creations and be able to have an audience as well.

“Sports and academics are given high priority, but we often undermine the importance of the arts,” Zhang said. “Without words, art and music, we would have no culture.”

Anonymous submissions will be allowed. Students would just have to put down ‘anonymous’ for their name, and generate an anonymous e-mail to put in the blank for e-mail.

Submissions will be reviewed for inappropriate material before posting.

“Self-expression and creativity should be held in high regard,” Zhang said. “I hope students will be able to submit works that mean something to them, and might mean something to others as well.”

Students will also be able to submit favorite quotes that might mean something to them, or professionally and maturely stated opinion pieces.

“I hope this might connect our school and make it more of a community,” Zhang said. “Not only a community of stellar athletes and scholars, but of amazing artistic and creative members of our school as well.”
