Opinions vary on early dismissal days

Since the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, early dismissal days have been occurring every first Wednesday of each month.

These dismissals have brought a number of different opinions with them.

Senior Bailey Wiesner and junior Rachel Mewhinney said they like the shortened school days, but wish they were on Friday.

“When we get dismissed early on a Wednesday it feels like it should be the weekend,” Wiesner said. “But then I realize I have to go back to school the next day. I think it would make more sense if we came to school later instead of leaving school early.”

Mewhinney said she likes all of the shorter class periods.

“On the shorter days I usually go straight to work,” Mewhinney said. “I think I use the extra time I have well.”

Freshman Molly Hoar said she would prefer it if the dismissal days weren’t on Wednesday.

“I think it would be better if they were on Wednesdays or Fridays,” Hoar said. “I do like the dismissals though, getting to leave class is nice.”

Seniors Hailey George and Mariela Estrada said they also likes the early dismissal days.

“It’s nice to have a little bit of a break during the day,” George said. “The only downside is that I have practice at the same time as usual.”

Estrada said she thinks it’s nice to be let out of school early.

“It’s like a small break,” Estrada said.

Junior Veranika Fuller said she feels indifferent towards the early dismissals.

“It is what it is,” Fuller said. “I don’t really like them and I don’t necessarily hate them. They seem sort of pointless.”

Chemistry instructor Beth Schiel has a varying opinion on the early release days.

“Sometimes the dismissal days can be very beneficial,” Schiel said. “Other times they seem to be not so beneficial.”

The early release dates for the remainder of the year are Feb. 3, March 2 and April 6. Students in sports need to come back to the school for regularly scheduled practices and arrange rides for 1 p.m.
