As colds are very common at this time of year, many people would appreciate an easy way to provide relief, especially when medicines aren’t doing their job.

A few easy, natural remedies can be used instead.

  1. Ginger tea- Drink a few cups of ginger tea to help clear congestion and soothe sore throats. Ginger tea can be made by adding about two teaspoons of fresh ginger root to boiled water or just buying premixed tea from the store.
  2. Honey- Add honey to tea, or heated water. Honey is known to soothe sore throats and clear congestion as well.
  3. Vitamin C and D- Although there is conflicting evidence about whether increased vitamin intake helps prevent colds, there is no harm in adding lemon to your ginger tea, and it may shorten the duration of symptoms.
  4. Humidifiers- Adding moisture to the air may loosen congestion and help you breathe better.
  5. Stay hydrated- The body needs to remain hydrated to function correctly, especially when it is working to fight off a cold.
  6. Rest- Your body heals while it rests, so make sure to get as much sleep as possible.
