Cross Country at Junction City

Senior Seth Tophoj finished in third with a time of 16:55 leading the varsity boys to a sixth place finish at Junction City.

Seniors Eli Fort (17:56) and Danny Mulkey (21:00), junior Dallas Kaiser (18:30), and sophomores Joshua Brungardt (19:15), Alec Webb (19:16), and Blake Mathews (19:17) also ran on varsity.

“I was really proud of how our teams competed at Junction City,” Coach Jerold Harris said. “The competition was very tough, with many ranked teams from class 6A and also from 5A.”

Running for junior varsity boys were senior Ky Scheibler (19:25), juniors Derek Stiles (20:55) and Kevin Arnhold (20:45), sophomore Steven Vancil (22:34), and freshman Hunter Bizzell (19:54).

Varsity girls also placed sixth at Junction City.

Senior Bailey Zimmerman placed seventh (15:55).

Senior Kelli Oppliger (18:09), junior Paige Lunsford (17:48), sophomores April Johnson (17:24) and Kylee Filley (17:51), and freshmen Wendy Zimmerman (17:50) and Shelby Matlock (18:09) also ran for varsity girls.

“I felt that we competed well, especially in the middle of the race,” Harris said. “Many of our athletes ran their personal bests on a very hilly and challenging course.  I am proud how they represented Hays High School today.”

Running for junior varsity girls were junior Taylor Biskie (20:56), sophomore Chelsie Schoendaller (18:46) and freshmen Reagan Kaiser (18:53) Shae Biskie (19:22) and Alysia Arnhold (21:26).
